Closures

How to Get Prescriptions Filled from Civilian (Off-Base) Providers

Instructions for Providers

Providers enter the DOD MacDill EPHCY exactly as below. If the correct address is not listed, the prescription will not come through. Please note: there is an off-base civilian pharmacy on MacDill Ave which uses “MacDill” as an entry.

Instructions for Patients

Please note: Electronic prescriptions submitted by health care providers are not automatically ready for patient pick-up.
Patients must activate all new electronic prescriptions. Request activation by sending a message using the MHS Genesis Patient Portal

How to Get Prescriptions Filled from an On-Base Provider

Check-in and pick-up your prescriptions at the pharmacy in the same clinic as your appointment. 
Or send a message to MacDill Pharmacy Services using the MHS Genesis Patient Portal with:
 
·         Pharmacy Name
·         Prescription Number
·         Name of Medication(s)

Prescription Transfers

MacDill AFB Pharmacy will transfer active refills into our pharmacy only from other military pharmacies upon request.
 
FROM A MILITARY INSTALLATION WITH MHS GENESIS: Call the MacDill refill call-in line and enter the RX Number on the label, it will automatically feed into our system
 
FROM A MILITARY INSTALLATION WITHOUT MHS GENESIS: Send a message to MacDill Pharmacy Services via the MHS GENESIS PATIENT PORTAL with: pharmacy name, prescription number and name of medication(s).
 
MacDill AFB Pharmacy will transfer active refills out to any military or retail pharmacy. Have the new pharmacy call 813-827-7910, option 3 and leave a message.
 
All others transfers in will require new prescriptions.

Pharmacy Terminology

 
ACTIVATE: An action taken by a patient to inform the pharmacy that they would like their prescriptions filled.
 
NEW PRESCRIPTION: An original prescription written/electronically prescribed by a provider.
 
REFILL:  A subsequent filling of a prescription after the initial fill of a new prescription, example a new prescription for a year supply includes 3 refills before it requires a renewal request. Refills do not require action by a prescriber.
 
RENEWAL: a new prescription written/electronically prescribed by a provider for a medication a patient has previously been on but has either expired or exhausted all refills.  Renewals require action to be taken by a prescriber.

TRICARE Formulary Search Tool

Use the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool to look-up your drug. A search can tell you:

  • Formulary status (generic drug, brand-name drug, non-formulary drug, non-covered drug)
  • Where the prescription can be filled
  • Copayments and limitations, such as prior authorization
  • Coverage review requirements and forms
  • Alternative medications, including costs

To start your search, you’ll need to put in the brand name or generic name of the drug and then select the strength prescribed, as well as your gender and age.
